Issue/Introduction

  • Windows 11 Virtual Machine becomes unresponsive while installing updates at 31%.
  • Issue occurs while installing the updates.
  • Only Windows 11 virtual machines within the ESXi host or cluster are affected; all other virtual machines function correctly and are patchable. 
  • Virtual Machine tasks, like Power on/off, can be performed form vSphere client.
  • Virtual Machine is inaccessible via RDP as well as web console.
  • Virtual Machine gives intermittent ping response with a high latency.

Resolution

Engage the operating system vendor to work on this issue.

You may be required to collect the memory dump of the Virtual Machine at the time of the issue. Refer to Converting a VMware virtual machine snapshot to a memory dump.
