Issue/Introduction

This article provides steps to change the root password on a vSAN Snapshot Service Appliance.

Resolution

Using the passwd command

  1. Log in to the vSAN Snapshot Service Appliance console via SSH or Web Console.

  2. Log in as root and enter the current root password when prompted.

  3. Change the root password using passwd command.
    passwd root

  4. Enter the new root password.

  5. Enter the password a second time to verify.

Note: The password for the vSAN Snapshot Service Appliance must be at least 15 characters long.
