Issue/Introduction

DRS is set to fully automated and newly added ESXi host resource utilization is significantly less than other hosts in cluster.

Environment

vSphere 8.0+

Cause

New ESXi host has a physical NIC interface speed that is different from other hosts in the cluster. DRS considers proposed moves between hosts of differing network speed as a higher cost move. Therefore VMs are unlikely to be moved between hosts with different NIC speeds.

Resolution

Set ESXi host NIC interface speed to be the same across the cluster.

If DRS costs are similar between existing and new ESXi hosts, DRS will move VMs to the new ESXi host.
