Issue/Introduction

When adding a new node in Aria Operations 8.18.x, the cluster is still unbalanced.   Even after more than 48 hours, the objects in the environment have not balanced.

As seen in the screenshot below, the first three nodes have around 28,000 Objects In Process whereas the 4th Data Node only has 480 Objects In Process.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

After adding or replacing an analytics node, disk usage across the cluster may become unbalanced. Although the rebalancing process will begin automatically after a short delay, in some cases it may be beneficial to initiate it manually to redistribute data more quickly.

Please ensure the build numbers that match the rest of the cluster as well.  In the screenshot you can see the data node on the bottom has a different build number.  This can cause the cluster to not balance properly.

Resolution

Perform an manual rebalance by following the steps in this KB:  How to rebalance disk and adapter instance(s) in Aria Operations
