Issue/Introduction

You want to install or configure SNMP on VCF components to allow for third party software and version discovery on the appliance of an Aria Suite Product

You may encounter an issue where the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) configuration within an Aria Suite Appliance does not function for appliance discovery by third-party tools like ServiceNow. Despite enabling SNMP (v2c or v3) on an Aria Suite appliance, it fails to provide successful discovery and monitoring.

Environment

This applies to any appliance in the Aria Suite for all versions including the following products:

  • Aria Suite Lifecycle
  • Aria Automation
  • Aria Orchestrator
  • vIDM
  • Aria Operations
  • Aria Operations for Logs
  • Aria Operation for Networks

Cause

SNMP is not be installed and is not intended nor suitable to to be configured for general operating system traps or third-party appliance discovery.

Resolution

Installing and Configuring SNMP on any Aria Suite appliance is not supported.

To achieve the goal of appliance discovery or monitoring via SNMP, you may explore the following alternative solutions or workarounds:

  1. Utilize Aria Operations / Aria Operations for Logs

  2. Investigate setting up and configuring SNMP traps within Aria Operations to trigger specific alerts and definitions. This may involve leveraging a management pack within Aria Operations and Aria Operations for Logs.
