In the vSphere Client, under Cluster → Quickstart, a banner may appear showing “Re-Setup” or “Set up your cluster” even though the cluster health score is high and all services such as vMotion, HA, and DRS are working normally.
This can cause administrators to believe the cluster requires reconfiguration, even when it is fully operational.
VMware vCenter Server 7.0.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x
The Cluster Quickstart workflow is designed for initial cluster setup.
If configuration changes are later made outside this guided workflow,
such as:
- Adding or removing ESXi hosts manually
- Editing DRS or HA settings directly
- Changing networking or vSAN configurations
- Performing host maintenance or replacements
vCenter cannot map these manual updates back to the Quickstart workflow state.
As a result, the UI may display “Re-Setup” or “Set up your cluster”, even though the cluster configuration and functionality remain healthy.
This is expected behavior and cosmetic only.
If the cluster is healthy and all services (DRS, HA, vMotion) are operational, no corrective action is required.
To clear or refresh the message:
------------------------------------------
1. Navigate to Cluster → Quickstart in the vSphere Client.
2. Click Skip Quickstart to dismiss the setup prompt permanently.
This does not affect existing configuration or functionality.
3. (Optional) Click Re-Validate to refresh the configuration view.
If Cluster DRS Score is near 100% and no DRS faults or recommendations are shown, the environment is fully functional and production-ready.
This behavior is UI-level only and has no impact on cluster stability, performance, or functionality.
It occurs after valid manual configuration changes outside the Quickstart workflow.
The message can safely be ignored or hidden using Skip Quickstart.
