Issue/Introduction

  • vmxnet3 adapter VMs gets any 24H2 and 25H2 patch, observes low receive throughput when TCP checksum offload (ipv4) is enabled.
  • Within the guest OS poor performance during file transfer

Environment

  • ESXi 8.x
  • vCenter 8.x

Cause

The Guest OS is configured to automatically enable TCP checksum offload (IPv4) upon installation of the patch

Resolution

  1. Ensure to Upgrade VMware tools to the latest version.
  2. Disable the TCP checksum offload (ipv4).
    1. Take RDP or console to the VM.
    2. Launch the powershell and execute the below command.
    3. Set-NetAdapterAdvancedProperty -DisplayName "TCP checksum offload (ipv4)" -DisplayValue "Rx & Tx Disabled".
    4. Reboot the OS.
