Issue/Introduction

  • In VMware NSX version 4.2, the BGP session diagnostics setting is enabled by default.
  • However, when running the following command, you see the message "Session Diagnostics is disabled".

edge-fqdn(tier0_sr_vrf)> get bgp neighbor <neighbor-IP> session-diagnostics

  • Also, BGP flaps do not automatically generate additional diagnostic data useful for root cause analysis and determining why it flapped.
  • The Tier 0 (T0) with the BGP configuration was created as a Manager object, not a Policy object.

Environment

VMware NSX 4.2.x and later

Cause

  • The BGP session diagnostics feature is specific to Policy objects and does not get enabled for NSX Manager objects.
  • The Manager API is being deprecated and new features may not support it. See NSX Manager Overview for additional details.

Resolution

Promote the T0 Manager Object to a Policy Object so that BGP session-diagnostics are enabled for the T0.
