Issue/Introduction

  • VIO Manager and controller VM's have corrupted disks
  • Reboot and the VM's go into single-user mode (rescue mode)
  • Console screen shows message similar to:
    EXT4-fs (sda#):  Remounting filesystem read-only
  • Underlying Storage issues (ie loss of storage) in the environment.

Environment

7.3

Cause

Loss of underlying storage causes linux based VM filesystem to be read-only.

Resolution

  1. Fix underlying storage problem.
  2. Reboot impacted VM's   (NSX manager and edges could also be impacted).
  3. If FSCK needs to be run, boot messages will inform you.  Run as instructed in the boot messages.
  4. Once VM's are back up and running, test that filesystem is not mounted Read-Only.
    #touch test
  5. Stop the VIO deployment as it won't start properly at this point.
    #viocli stop services
  6. Once all services have stopped, we can restart the deployment.
    #viocli start services
