Issue/Introduction

• ESXi upgrade in the cluster is failing with the error:

ESX UPGRADE VUM STAGE REMOVE HOST FROM VC INVENTORY

• In /var/log/vmware/vcf/lcm-debug.log, the following is seen:

Error when scanning the ESX custom image spec:
com.vmware.vim.binding.vim.fault.NotAuthenticated: The session is not authenticated.

Environment

VCF 5.1.1

Cause

The connection established during scan start is repurposed to get result after scan completion, the scan take too much time to complete and rendered the session as invalid. 

Resolution

Replan the upgrade to VCF 5.2.0 or later where this issue is fixed.
