Error: "Generic error during the SSL handshake" occurs when creating new outgoing protection

Issue/Introduction

• Creating a new outgoing protection fails with "Generic error during the SSL handshake".
• SSL certificates have been renewed however issues persist.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.3

Cause

 This issue can occur when the connection to the configured Public Service Endpoint address is not accessible from the on-premises appliance.

Resolution

To resolve the issue engage with your network team and ensure that on-premises appliance is able to communicate on port 443 to the configured Public Service Endpoint.

Additional Information

To test the connection from the on-premises appliance to the Public Service Endpoint, the following commands can be run from the on-premises appliance.

openssl s_client -connect <Public Service Endpoint address>:443 </dev/null 2>/dev/null
 
curl -kv https://<Public Service Endpoint address>:443
