Issue/Introduction

On the VMware Aria Operations UI, navigate to Operations --> Configurations --> Notifications, hovering on the notification rule the error [Some of (or all) Alert Definition not found] is observed.

When trying to edit the notification rule with the above error, the message below is observed:

Error!

Some Alert Definition ids are invalid
Some Alert Definition ids are invalid

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.18.x

Cause

  • This issue typically occurs after an upgrade, when alert definitions from the previous version are removed in the new release.
  • Normally, alerts cannot be deleted if referenced in any active notification. This situation arises as a result of an upgrade (when an alert is deprecated) or if the alert was manually removed from the database.

Resolution

This will be fixed in upcoming releases.

Additional Information

The expected behavior is that after an upgrade, if any alert definition is deleted, you the customer should be able to edit the notification and save it without any issues. This action would trigger the updated list to be published in the notification definition.
