Issue/Introduction

  • When working within the VMware Cloud Director (VCD) Tenant or Provider portal, refreshing the browser while viewing a virtual machine’s Security Tags tab can cause the interface to load a completely blank white page instead of returning to the expected view.

  • The issue occurs when pressing F5 or Ctrl + R inside the Security Tags view.

  • Reproduces across multiple browsers (Chrome / Edge).

  • Occurs even when accessing a VCD cell directly, bypassing the load balancer.

  • Navigation between tabs continues to work normally.

  • Browser Back Button restores the UI until another refresh is attempted.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

This issue can occur when the Security Tags UI component is refreshed directly in the browser.
During a manual page reload, the VCD UI loses its routing and session-state context for that sub-component. The result is a JavaScript initialization error that prevents the page from rendering, leaving the user with a blank white screen.

Resolution

This is a known issue in the VCD system and will be addressed in a future release

  • Avoid direct refresh (F5 / Ctrl + R) while on the Security Tags tab.

The following workarounds can be used:

To update the tag display:

  1. Navigate away from the security tag screen

  2. Return to Security Tags to reload the data.

Verify that general UI loading is healthy:

  1. Confirm that /cloudapi/1.0.0/security-tags returns a 200 OK response in Developer Tools > Network.

  2. Ensure that vCenter Server and NSX-T Manager are reachable from the VCD cells.

  3. If the UI remains blank after following the above steps, clear the browser cache and re-log in to VCD.
