HCX OSAM Sentinel agent does not initiate in Oracle Exadata with the error "Error getting system configuration"

Issue/Introduction

• VM with installed sentinel agent is not shown in inventory
• The Virtual Machine is not listed in HCX Manager UI > Infrastructure> Interconnect > Service Mesh > Sentinel Management after installing the Sentinel agent:
  
  
  
• The following error message is observed in /var/log/vmware/hcx/osam/sentinel.log:

  2025-Oct-31 14:45:06.899 ERROR [Thread-3] c.v.h.F.ManagerReSTServer$RestAPIHandler - Error getting system configuration
  java.lang.Exception: Inconsistent state, disk (/dev/asm!.asm_ctl_vio8) in partition table not found in BlockDevices!!!

Cause

The device path /dev/asm is used by Oracle Automatic Storage Management, and it is unsupported by HCX Manager as it is unknown content with a partition or a block device.

Resolution

If possible, remove the device path /dev/asm to migrate the virtual machine.
