VMware HCX

Issue/Introduction

  • Configured the Domain Name from the System Appliance Management Interface.
    https://<HCX-Manager-IP>:9443/
[Administration] - [Network Settings] - [General Network]

  • Upon restarting HCX Manager, it was discovered that the Domain Name settings had been lost.

  • It does not occur every time, but rather at a low probability, such as once every ten times.

Environment

VMware HCX

Cause

The management interface UI has two input fields labeled "host name" and "domain name", but internally, the system generates a fully qualified domain name from the pair and treats it as a unit.
However, for some reason, the OS may fail to recognize this correctly, causing settings to disappear or become unstable.

Resolution

This issue is caused by an OS problem, so no fix is planned for HCX.
If the Domain Name setting disappears after restarting HCX Manager, please reconfigure it from the System Appliance Management Interface.

Workaround:
When deploying HCX Manager from an OVA, set the Hostname to an FQDN that includes the Domain Name.
