Overview of feature introductions per VDS/DVS version
Definitions:
VDS: Virtual Distributed Switch, also called proxy switch on ESXi host
Standard vSwitch: virtual switch on ESXi host, has less options than distributed switch, but no need for having a vCenter to manage.
In VC 9.0, the supported DVS (Distributed Virtual Switch) in 9.0 will be limited to 8.0.x and 9.0.0. The DVS 7.0.x will not be supported any more in 9.0.
