Unable to vMotion or migrate VM "TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'type')"

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to migrate or vMotion a VM, the migration wizard reports a compatibility error of "TypeError: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'type')".

The VM does not have a source network configured, or not listed in the migration wizard:

Environment

VMware vSphere 8.0

Cause

The VM doesn't have an existing network associated with the adapter, or the existing network is otherwise not accessible, which prevents the migration operation from manipulating the VM's network settings to an new, existing network.

Resolution

Edit the VM's settings and attach the VM's network adapter to an existing network and re-attempt the migration.
