Issue/Introduction

  • When switching a WSFC cluster, the ReleaseDiskPRFailure error occurs.
  • No problems are observed with the WSFC on vSphere configuration.
  • The vmware.log shows a reservation conflict as shown below.
    YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.SSSZ In(05) vcpu-0 - NVME-VMK: nvme1:0: RESERVATION ACQUIRE Command failed. Status: 0x0/0x83.
  • No problems are observed from a storage perspective.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

This issue may occur if a third-party monitoring agent running on the guest OS is monitoring the shared disk, causing the reservation to not be released.

Resolution

Check whether a third-party monitoring agent is running on the guest OS.
