Issue/Introduction

Some vApp templates within the catalog are missing version information and cannot be used for deployment. Affected templates appear inactive and do not display any version details.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

  • This issue occurs when vApp templates reach their configured expiration date.
  • Once a template expires, its version information is automatically removed, and the template transitions to an inactive or expired state. As a result, the template becomes unusable for deployment or cloning.
  • Previously, the expiration policy for templates was set to 30 days, which caused templates to expire and lose their associated version data after that period.

Resolution

To prevent templates from expiring and losing version information, the template expiration policy has been updated to Never Expire.

Steps to apply the resolution:
  1. Log in to the vCloud Director UI with administrator privileges.
  2. Navigate to Content Libraries or Catalogs → vApp Templates.
  3. Edit the affected template’s Expiration Policy settings.
  4. Set the Expiration Date to Never Expire.
  5. Save and verify that the template version information is now retained and visible.
