Datastore shows up in inventory as inaccessible after being decommissioned

Issue/Introduction

• We can see that datastore reflects as inaccessible under datastores

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0x

Cause

The vCenter database (VCDB) retains inaccessible datastore records when they are not properly removed, leaving objects in the environment.

Resolution

1.  Verify which hosts currently have the datastore mounted.

2. Gracefully unmount the datastore from all identified hosts following the below steps:

   1. In the vSphere Web Client navigator, select Global Inventory Lists > Datastores
   2. Right-click the datastore to unmount and select Unmount Datastore.
   3. If the datastore is shared, select the hosts from which to unmount the datastore.
   4. Click on ok.
3. Confirm that the stale datastore entry automatically disappears (is removed) once it is successfully unmounted from all connected hosts.
