Issue/Introduction

When running the configuration jobs for a new Datacom instance, using the default filetype of VSAM has specific SMS requirements.

If the correct Data Class has not been used, this error can be produced in job AXNEW01:

DB01422E - VSAM ERROR - 0 CXX NOT EXTENDED FORMAT

Cause

The correct SMS Data Class has not been defined or entered

Resolution

The error you received:

DB01422E - VSAM ERROR - 0 CXX NOT EXTENDED FORMAT

Can be found in the Messages documentation, and has this explanation:

Reason: The dataset is not defined as extended format.
Action: Review how the dataset was allocated versus how it is documented to be successfully allocated. Correct the IDCAMS option DATACLASS to provide a class that is set to allow it to expand beyond 4gb.

In other words, when you defined these files, you did not specify the appropriate DATACLAS parameter that conforms to the requirements we need for Datacom Linear VSAM files.

To review the requirements and usage details for Linear VSAM files, please see the Datacom/AD documentation for Using VSAM Linear Data Sets. If you already have a Datacom 15.1 installation running, there is a job you can run to identify the correct SMS Data Class to use. If you have already successfully run AXCUS01, then please run member AD15VSDC from your INSTJCL PDS. This job will identify any suitable Data Classes to use. Once you have identified the correct class, update and rerun job AXCUS01 with the correct value.
