Issue/Introduction

In AXCUS01, in the last step UPDINST, what are the changes required for the below lines (in italic bold)?

//CHGINPUT DD *,SYMBOLS=(JCLONLY)
X AXCUS00
X AXCUS01
F YOUR.MUF.CUSPROC
T &@AXCUS..CUSPROC

Resolution

The AXCUS01 job builds the customizable environment for your new MUF, by creating the *.INSTJCL library of jobs to maintain the MUF, creating other libraries you will use through the life of the MUF, and most importantly, by creating a single INCLUDE member that will hold all the identifying variables for this MUF. This INCLUDE member ($AXISET) can be used in any job that needs to access this MUF, allowing the JCL to use symbolic variables.

The only things in this job that require user input are the SET statements at the top of the job. As noted about line 215--where you see the message "Do not change anything below this line unless directed."-- nothing else below that line needs to be changed. Therefore, the lines you have asked about do not need any changes and will be processed as they are shown.

For your information, this UPDINST step allows multiple customizable updates to a PDS using a Rexx program. These control statements say

  1. Do not touch members AXCUS00 or AXCUS01 - leave them as they are.
  2. For every other member in the PDS, if you see the string "YOUR.MUF.CUSPROC" anywhere in the member, change it to the string "&@AXCUS..CUSPROC"

Then, when this is run, the JCL variable substitution will change the @AXCUS variable to whatever value you gave it in the SET statements up above.

To wrap this all up, do not change any of the JCL below line 215, and be sure that you have carefully entered the details for all SET statements above that line.
