Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter Server adapter was failed to connect from Aria Operations;
  • In /storage/var/vcops/log/collector.log, there is "Temporary failure in name resolution" error like:

    YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS ERROR [Collector worker thread 10]  com.vmware.vcops.vlsi.VimClientFactory.createVimClientImpl - Exception occurred while creating VIM client.
    com.vmware.vim.vmomi.client.exception.ConnectionException: https://<vCenter Server FQDN>/sdk invocation failed with "java.net.UnknownHostException: <vCenter Server FQDN>: Temporary failure in name resolution"


Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

vCenter Server FQDN was failed to resolved to IP address due to wrong DNS settings

Resolution

  1. Please check if DNS server is configured properly on all Aria Operations nodes. If needed please modify DNS server following: Modifying the DNS settings of VMware Aria Operations
  2. Please make sure vCenter Server FQDN can be resolved by run command "nslookup <vCenter Server FQDN>" on Aria Operations command line.
