Issue/Introduction

There is a hint message on BOSH director settings about checking "Recreate VMs deployed by the BOSH Director" checkbox when updating some properties for S3 Compatible Blobstore, as shown blow.

But there is no similar description in documentation. Users may want to know if it's still required to check the "Recreate VMs deployed by the BOSH Director"  checkbox for recent Ops Manager versions (e.g. 3.x).

Cause

Recreate VMs are required with old versions of Xenial and Jammy stemcells for CA rotations and updating blobstore properties on BOSH director. More descriptions are available in Ops Manager documentation (as shown by image below).

Resolution

With recent Xenial and Jammy stemcells, specifically if you have the following stemcells, then it's not required to recreate VMs for updating blobstore properties since the BOSH Agent will actually receive blobstore updates via NATS.

  • Jammy stemcells at version 1.8 or later,
  • Xenial stemcells at version 621.171 or later
  • Windows 2019.41 or later

The "Recreate VMs deployed by the BOSH Director" instruction will be removed from the hint on BOSH Director Settings page in future versions of Ops Manager.
