VMware SDDC Manager

Issue/Introduction

The SDDC Manager UI task error is similar to -

VCSA_INSTALL_FAILED

Check for errors in the lcm log files located on SDDC Manager under /var/log/vmware/vcf/lcm.

Please make sure input json exists at the path, /var/log/vmwar/vcf/lcm/vcenter/xxxxx/xxxxx and check if it has read/write permissions.

The vSphere UI, for the source vCenter - under the VM tab > Monitor > Tasks and Events > Tasks shows the task that failed is "Deploy OVF template" - and that the error is -

PBM error occurred during PreCreateCheckCallback: HTTP error response: Service Unavailable

Environment

VCF 5.x

Cause

The  profile-driven storage (vmware-sps) service on the management vCenter is stopped.

The profile-driven storage (vmware-sps) service is also known as the policy based management (PBM) service, PBM being in error is what is being presented in the error.

This service needs to be running on the management vCenter in order to be able to deploy the OVF template.

Resolution

Start the vmware-sps service on the mgmt vCenter using this command:

service-control --start vmware-sps

Once the vmware-sps service is started on the management vCenter, the upgrade of the workload domain vCenter should be retried and is expected to be succesful.
