VM IP addresses out-of-order

Issue/Introduction

• VMTools has a known issue where, in certain scenarios, it can report out-of-order IP addresses.
• Running Mavenir CNF on Photon 3

 

Environment

TCA 2.3

TCP 3.0

TKG 1.24.10

Cause

• Kubernetes node has more than 4 network adapters and all interfaces are assigned IPs (static or DHCP).
• Nodes with fewer than 4 interfaces are unaffected.
• Simply having multiple interfaces does not trigger the issue—it only arises when every network adapter has an assigned IP.

Resolution

1. Download the attached photon-3-kube-v1.24.10-vmware.1-tkg.1-fbb49d-25020564 template.

   • The BYOI template can be used for TCA 2.3 and TCA 3.2 deployments with Kubernetes 1.24.10.

   • A control-plane upgrade is not required, only the node pool upgrade is recommended to address the vmtools out-of-order issue.

2. Import the new BYOI template into your vCenter:

   1. Right-click the Datacenter or Cluster object and select “Deploy OVF Template.”

   2. On the next screen, choose the source (local file or remote URL) for the OVA, configure placement parameters such as folder and datastore

   3. Click Finish.

3. Convert the deployed VM:

   1. Right-click the VM

   2. Select Template

   3. Click Convert to Template.

4. Log in to TCA:

   1. Select the cluster and then choose the node pool you want to upgrade to this template.

   2. Click the three dots next to the node pool name and select Edit. The edit node pool dialog window pops up

   3. Under VM Template, select the new template:

   4. Click on OK

   5. Complete the wizard by clicking Update Node Pool.

Once the upgrade is complete, the node pool should return to the Provisioned state and display the updated template name.
