Issue/Introduction
- ESXi host experiences a PSOD after a major upgrade.
- Error visible in DCUI: "The system has found a problem on your machine and cannot continue. Failed to update CPUxx microcode"
- Host can reboot successfully after rollback to previous ESXi version.
Environment
ESXi 8.x
Cause
CPU microcode cannot be updated as part of vSphere upgrade.
This is caused by a hardware issue.
Resolution
Engage hardware vendor and replace host motherboard.
