Issue/Introduction

  • A VMFS datastore is not acessible on some ESXi hosts but is accessible on others

  • The datastore is not accessible on the impacted hosts after a host reboot or rescan

  • The LUN backing the datastore is correctly presented and accessible to the impacted hosts.

Environment

vSphere VMware ESXi (all versions)

Cause

The datastore has been unmounted on the impacted hosts.

To confirm, check mount state under:

esxcli storage filesystem list

Resolution

Mount the datastore on the impacted hosts.

To mount a datastore from the vCenter client: Datastores view - Right click datastore - Select Mount - Select the hosts to which to mount - Click OK

To mount a datastore from the ESXi CLI, see List, mount and unmount a volume/VMFS Datastore
