Issue/Introduction

Currently, the imageref feature does not support referencing images from Azure Shared Image Galleries when those galleries reside in an Azure subscription different from the primary cloud account subscription. This limitation prevents users from leveraging cross-subscription Shared Image Galleries with imageref functionality.

Customers are requesting an enhancement to enable imageref to successfully look up and utilize images stored in Azure Shared Image Galleries, even when the gallery is shared from another Azure subscription. This functionality is desired to streamline image management and deployment workflows across different Azure accounts within an organization.

Using this shared feature functionality allows a customer to limit the number of images they must copy across different subscriptions saving them storage space.

Environment

VMware Aria Automation 8.x

Cause

The current implementation of the imageref feature does not include native support for cross-subscription resolution of images within Azure Shared Image Galleries. This architectural design requires the referenced image to be located within the same Azure subscription as the configured cloud account for imageref to function correctly. This is an enhancement request to extend the existing functionality.

Resolution

This is a request for an enhancement to the product. The ability to use imageref with Azure Shared Image Galleries across different Azure subscriptions is not currently supported functionality.
