Importing an existing vCenter to create a workload domain fails

Issue/Introduction

  • Attempting to import an existing vCenter to create a workload domain in VCF 9.0 fails with an error

    The vCenter Server virtual machine is not connected to a distributed virtual port group or the dvpg has an association with non management traffic type for <vCenter FQDN> Error
    Please ensure the vCenter Server virtual machine is connected to a distributed virtual port group (dvpg) and the dvpg is not associated with non-management traffic type

  • The vCenter is connected to distributed virtual port group and not on Standard Switch.

Environment

vCenter 9.x

Cause

The vCenter VM is not managed by the same instance.

Resolution

To resolve this issue move the vCenter VM to a supported location by using VMware vMotion. See Migrating Virtual Machines Between vCenter Systems
