Issue/Introduction

Why is the SYSVUSER task taking up high amount of CPU, ranging from 20-60% of it?

Cause

There can be various causes for high CPU, from environmental factors to configuration issues.

Resolution

Each reported case of High CPU should be individually researched.   A Support Case should be opened for the Broadcom Support team to investigate.    Please provide the following information/documentation to get the case started:

  1. When was the high CPU usage first noticed?
  2. What is considered normal CPU usage?
  3. Is the CPU spiking or is it continuing to climb?
  4. Was anything recently changed in SYSVIEW or the operating system that might have contributed to this usage?
  5. When and what was the last maintenance applied to SYSVIEW?
  6. Issue SYSVIEW command 'CAPTURE DIAG0000', this will produce a capture that we will want to review.  It should be tersed and transmitted binary.
  7. Capture a console dump, during the period of high usage, which includes both the SYSVIEW and SYSVUSER address spaces.  To capture both tasks at the same time, issue console command:
          DUMP COMM=(SYSVIEW Dump)
          R xx,JOBNAME=(SYSVIEW,SYSVUSER),SDATA=(ALLNUC,PSA,CSA,SQA,LSQA,LPA,TRT,RGN,SUM,GRSQ),END
  8. Obtain the joblogs from SYSVIEW and SYSVUSER, ensuring that both contain the time of the reported high CPU.
