Issue/Introduction
- A virtual machine reboots at a specific time every day.
- The following snippets are found in the vCenter logs in
/var/log/vmware/vpxd/vpxd.log:
YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:YY.471Z info vpxd[1807294] [Originator@6876 sub=vpxLro opID=ProcessScheduledTaskFiring-4ac82af1] [VpxLRO] -- BEGIN task-2027 -- vm-####-- vim.VirtualMachine.rebootGuest --
Environment
VMware vCenter 8.x
VMware vCenter 7.x
Cause
A "Restart Guest OS" scheduled task is configured on the vCenter that triggers the reboot of the virtual machine.
Resolution
Investigate whether a scheduled task exists at the following location and make the necessary changes if required.
- Select the Virtual Machine from the vCenter inventory.
- Navigate to the Configure tab.
- Select Scheduled Tasks.
- There should be a scheduled task present. Select edit option in the task to view its target and configuration details.
- If a scheduled task exists, determine whether it was created for a specific purpose. If not, the task can be removed.
This should prevent the Virtual Machine from rebooting as a result of the scheduled task.
