Issue/Introduction

Unable to perform a storage vMotion
Error: The destination datastore cluster for VM disk 'Hard disk 1' is the same as its current datastore cluster.

Environment

VMware vSphere vCenter 7.0
VMware vSphere vCenter 8.0

Cause

The error comes when the VM files are already on the same datastore

Resolution

This is an expected behavior.

Note:

Check the VMDK location from the VM’s Edit Settings, or browse the datastore to verify and confirm that all VM files are present on the destination datastore.
