Issue/Introduction
There is a huge difference in the overall memory usage since the last few months
No excessive usage is seen in an esxtop bundle. Read more at
ESXi memory analysis using batch ESXTOP for high memory consumption troubleshooting
Environment
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.X
VMware vSphere ESXi 7.X
Cause
The memory increase is caused by In‑Guest activity within the VM
Resolution
Engage your GuestOs vendor to troubleshoot the memory consumption.
Note
: It is not possible to troubleshoot VM memory consumption over several months using an ESXi log bundle.
The memory increase is caused by In‑Guest activity within the VM, not by ESXi itself.
The ESXi host only allocates a small portion of physical memory to the VMkernel.
Broadcom cannot analyze inGuest activity as this is not seen at the VMware layer
