Issue/Introduction

  • Compatibility of the existing Supervisor Cluster (v1.30.10+vmware.1-fips-vsc0.1.12-24799161) and vCenter Server 8.0 Update 3g with newer versions of Kubernetes (v1.33) and vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS 3.4.x). The current VKS version is 3.3.3-embedded.

Environment

  • VMware Kubernetes Service

Resolution

  • Supervisor Cluster and vCenter Compatibility:

Current Supervisor Cluster version (v1.30.10+vmware.1-fips-vsc0.1.12-24799161) and vCenter Server 8.0 Update 3g are compatible with and support vSphere Kubernetes releases up to and including Kubernetes v1.33.

  • VKS Version Requirement for Kubernetes v1.33:

While the underlying infrastructure supports Kubernetes v1.33, enabling this specific Kubernetes version within your vSphere environment requires an upgrade of the vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) to a compatible version. Specifically, VKS version 3.4.0+v1.33 or VKS 3.4.1+v1.33 must be enabled to provision and manage Kubernetes clusters running v1.33. The current VKS version (3.3.3-embedded) does not support Kubernetes v1.33.

To fully leverage Kubernetes v1.33, an upgrade of VKS instance to version 3.4.0+v1.33 or 3.4.1+v1.33 is necessary. This upgrade will enable support for Kubernetes v1.33 within the vSphere Kubernetes environment. Please refer to Interoperability Result.

Based on the provided information, the Supervisor Cluster and vCenter Server are compatible with Kubernetes v1.33. However, an upgrade of the vSphere Kubernetes Service (VKS) to version 3.4.0+v1.33 or 3.4.1+v1.33 is required to enable and utilize Kubernetes v1.33 within the environment.
