Issue/Introduction

This article addresses the impact on virtual machines when ESXi or vCenter licenses are switched through the vSphere Client.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 7.0
VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0
VMware vCenter Server 7.0
VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Resolution

There is no impact on virtual machines when switching to another license.
Incompatible licenses cannot be applied. If incompatibility is detected, an error will be displayed during license registration.
