Issue/Introduction

CA - 7 indicated that a user's terminal stayed reserved after the BTI (SASSBSTR) job ended.  The following message was issued:

CA-7.253  ALL AVAILABLE BATCH TERMS IN USE. REPLY WAIT OR CANCEL

How can we know which jobs leave some of the batch terminals reserved, even after the job has already ended and why does this happen?  We had to run a free command to free the reserved batch terminal.

Resolution

When the BTI job runs successfully, you see the following messages:

+CA-7.BSTR-21 BATCH TERMINAL # n ALLOCATED.

+CA-7.BSTR-22 BATCH TERMINAL # n RELEASED.

The CA 7 task and syslog will show message CA-7.822 - (BLINEn) CLOSED

To find the job that cause the BTI terminal to hang, go to the CA 7 joblog and find the last CA-7.822 message. Next find the last occurrence of the CA-7.822 message in the syslog and from there look for the job that issued CA-7.BSTR-21 BATCH TERMINAL # n ALLOCATED but was not followed by the CA-7.BSTR-22 BATCH TERMINAL # n RELEASED message. This would be the job that left the terminal unusable.
