When attempting to migrate the management vmkernel from Standard vSwitch (vSS) to a Distributed vSwitch (vDS) there is an error and the process rolls back the management vmkernel to the vSS. The error pops up explaining the task created a disconnection and is rolled back to avoid the same.
" An error occurred while communicating with the remote host. Network configuration change disconnected the host from vCenter server and has been rolled back"
VMware vSphere ESXi
When performing the migration of management from a vSS to a vDS (or either way), the process will do the migration then check to make sure that network connectivity is not lost to the Host. If this check sees that connectivity is lost on either the vSS OR the vDS during the process, it will roll back to avoid connectivity issues.
This is by design, and expected behavior.
Prior to migrating the management vmkernel, it needs to be verified that there will be network connectivity for the management vmkernel on both the source and destination vSwitches. This means checking not only the vSphere settings but the settings of the full physical path. For example, checking that MTU matches across the entire network path, and the physical switch ports and any vSphere VLAN tagging configuration for management matches from end to end.
