Cancelling a snapshot deletion task causes the virtual machine to enter a "consolidation needed" status.

Issue/Introduction

- vSphere Client shows the VM is in a "consolidation needed" status

- vmware.log indicates consolidation was cancelled:

[timestamp] In(05) vmx - VigorTransportProcessClientPayload: opID=<opID> seq=1040409: Receiving Snapshot.ConsolidateCancel request.
[timestamp] In(05) vmx - VigorTransport_ServerSendResponse opID=<opID> seq=1040409: Completed Snapshot.ConsolidateCancel request in 32 US.
[timestamp] In(05) vmx - MirrorDiskCopyProgress: User requested cancel or the guest OS issued power-off. Ending ongoing copy.

- vpxd.log shows the snapshot removal task was cancelled:

Cause

The snapshot removal task was cancelled. Please check for any user-initiated cancellation. If a third‑party backup product is in use, contact the third‑party vendor to determine why the task was cancelled.

Resolution

Right‑click the virtual machine > Snapshots > Consolidate to consolidate the snapshots.
