VMware vSphere ESXi-The created license with serial key cannot be assigned to the chosen asset

Issue/Introduction

Unable to assign the new Licenses, error: "The created license with serial key xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx cannot be assigned to the chosen asset."

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXI 7.0.x, 8.0.x

Cause

This error is due to the license key version mismatch to the current version of the VMware host. 

Resolution

Match the version of license to VMware vSphere ESXi version:

1. Verify the version of your currently installed VMware vSphere ESXi.
2. Verify the version of your new VMware vSphere ESXi license key.
3. If the version of your license key is different to the your installed VMware vSphere ESXi, please either Upgrade or Downgrade the license key to a version that matches the current VMware vSphere ESXI product.
