Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading ESXi host to version 8.0.x, Nutanix CVM  VMs are not able to communicate with the ESXi
  • Communication to other Nutanix CVM VMs on the same ESXi is working as expected
  • EtherChannel (or port channel) is used on the physical switch
  • Management network portgroup has the Load balancing policy set to "Route based on originating port ID"

Environment

ESXi 8.0.x

Cause

When using an EtherChannel (or port channel) for connectivity between ESXi hosts and Physical Network Switches, the load balancing configuration needs to be set to  "Route based on IP hash"

Resolution

Change the management portgroup load balancing configuration to  "Route based on IP hash": Configure Virtual Switch with an EtherChannel (or port channel)
