HTTPS service is down on NSX Manager and Cluster Degraded

Issue/Introduction

• Direct connection to the url of an NSX Manager shows the UI down
  
  Some appliance components are not functioning properly.
Component health: SEARCH:UP, MANAGER:UP, UI:UP, NODE_MGMT:DOWN.
Error code: 101
  
  
• On the cluster NSX UI, on System > Appliances, select VIEW DETAILS shows HTTPS down

• On the cluster NSX UI, Home > Alarms, has an open Cluster Degraded alarm reporting HTTP is down

• ssh as admin to this node, admin cli commands may not work as expected

> restart service http
% Invalid value for argument <service-name>: http

> get services

• On the Manager /var/log/syslog shows the nsx-mp-api-server service stopped but not restarted

Environment

Cause

The nsx-mp-api-server has been manually stopped and not restarted.

Resolution

Start the nsx-mp-api-server service as root user on the impacted Manager

/etc/init.d/nsx-mp-api-server start
