Backups failed due to VDDK issue

Issue/Introduction

Backup application fail with the following error:

Error:
ABV0022: VM Direct engine 'Backup_Server_Name' is unable to back up the virtual machine 'vmName' on vCenter 'Example_vCenterFQDN' because of a VDDK issue.

Backup has FAILED. Unable to backup virtual disk "Hard disk 2". Unable to initialize Block Reader. Unable to open source VMDK 'example.vmdk'. VDDK Error: 14009: The server refused connection.

Looking at the tasks in vSphere, all of the snapshot tasks and the snapshot consolidation tasks for the VM are successful.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.3.x

Cause

This is an issue with the backup vendor software. This is not related to vCenter Server or ESXi Server.

Resolution

Customer needs to work with the backup software vendor in order to resolve this issue.
