Issue/Introduction

ESXi host in the vSAN cluster has experienced a hardware failure and is showing Not Responding in vCenter.

Environment

VMware 8.0.x

Cause

Hardware failure on the affected ESXi host.

Resolution

Remove the dead ESXi host from the vCenter inventory by right clicking on the host and selecting 'Remove from Inventory'

Additional Information

No further data evacuation from the failed host is required because vSAN should rebuild data on remaining hosts(after the rebuild timer expires and should there be enough space to facilitate the data rebuild process)

vSAN is no longer able to read or write to a host that has gone into a Not Responding state due to hardware failure and will be unable to go into maintenance mode.

Impacted host should have the failed hardware replaced before being put back into the cluster(should the intention be to continue using the impacted host)
