Error: "Unable to Contact Specified Host" while selecting Destination Host on VMware vCenter Converter

Issue/Introduction

  • When trying to connect to Destination Host in VMware Converter, the below error is seen:

    Unable to contact the specified host '<host_IP or FQDN>'. The host is not available, there is a network configuration problem, or the management services on the host are not responding.

  • %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\Logs\converter-gui.log show the below entries:

    YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss warning converter-gui[01384] [Originator@6876 sub=HttpConnectionPool-000000] Failed to get pooled connection; <cs p:0b860540, TCP:<Destination_Host_IP/FQDN>:443>, (null), duration: 20992msec, class Vmacore::SystemException(A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond)
    YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss error converter-gui[04832] [Originator@6876 sub=wizardController] GetVimConnection has error while trying to connect (3), Error: Fault cause: converter.fault.NoHostConnection

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Converter

Cause

  • This issue can be seen if the required ports are not opened or any firewall configuration blocking the connection.

Resolution

  • Validate if the Required Ports are open for VMware vCenter Converter. Reference KB: Required VMware vCenter Converter ports
  • Also, check the firewall configuration which might be causing this connection to fail.
