Issue/Introduction

  • VMware Aria Operations and VMware Aria Operations for Logs is added to the same environment card in Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager 
  • Sign into VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager UI > Navigate to Lifecycle Operations > Environments > Click on View Details for the environment containing VMware Aria Operations and VMware Aria Operations for Logs > Select  VMware Aria Operations for Logs product > Click on 3 horizontal dots >  Click Delete Product > Request fails with the error:
    Error Code: LCMVROPSYSTEM25133
    Unable to fetch the adapter details from VMware Aria Operations. Please verify the credentials or adapter name
  • VMware Aria Operations for Logs adapter is configured in VMware Aria Operations under Administration > Integrations > VMware Aria Operations for Logs Adapter  

Environment

VMware Aria Operations for Logs 8.18.x

VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager 8.18.x

Cause

VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager manages both VMware Aria Operations for Logs and VMware Aria Operations where:

  • The VMware Aria Operations is configured with a VMware Aria Operations for Logs adapter
  • VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager is unable to remove VMware Aria Operations for Logs adapter automatically from VMware Aria Operations

Resolution

Mandatory: Take snapshots - Snapshot Creation in VMware Aria Operations -  Managing snapshots in vSphere Web Client
Snapshots are required on all analytics (Primary, Replica, and Data) nodes in the cluster before following the steps below. It is not necessary to take snapshots of Cloud Proxies.

There are two core reasons to remove VMware Aria Operations for Logs from VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager:
  • Decommission - Permanently decommission the VMware Aria Operations for Logs appliance. No data from retained from VMware Aria Operations for Logs.
  • Removal - Remove VMware Aria Operations for Logs appliance from VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager, while retaining the VMware Aria Operations for Logs instance and it's data.

Ensure that you understand the difference, before proceeding with the steps below to prevent loss of data.

 

  1. Sign in to VMware Aria Operations product UI
  2. Navigate to Administration Integrations → Expand the 'VMware Aria Operations for Logs' adapter → Click the vertical ellipsis (3 dots)
    • Removal: Select 'Delete' → Do not select 'Delete related objects' checkbox.
    • Decommission: Select 'Delete' → You can leave the 'Delete related objects' checkbox ticked or unticked when decommissioning.
  3. Sign in to VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager using 'admin@local' user account.
  4. Navigate to Lifecycle OperationsEnvironments → Click on View Details for the environment containing VMware Aria Operations and VMware Aria Operations for Logs 
    1. Select  VMware Aria Operations for Logs product
    2. Click on 3 horizontal dots
    3. Click on Trigger Inventory Sync.
      Note: Repeat this for VMware Aria Operations environment
  5. Navigate to Lifecycle Operations > Environments > Click on View Details for the environment containing VMware Aria Operations and VMware Aria Operations for Logs
    1. Select  VMware Aria Operations for Logs product
    2. Click on 3 horizontal dots
      • Removal: Select 'Delete' → Do not select 'Delete associated VMs from vCenter' unless you want to decommission VMWare Aria Operations for Logs
      • Decommission: Select 'Delete' → Select 'Delete associated VMs from vCenter' only if you intend to delete the VMware Aria Operations for Logs instance
