Issue/Introduction

  • Following alert is reported during NSX upgrade pre-check for ESXi hosts:
    “ ESXi Host Transport Node with name xx prepared for security-only is referencing the host switch with DVS version less than 7.0.3 . Please go to VC to upgrade all the DVSes used by security-only clusters to 7.0.3+ before proceeding to upgrade.”
  • This issue may occur during an NSX upgrade from version 4.x to a later release.
  • This error is reported on the ESXi hosts during the NSX upgrade pre-check phase.

Environment

VMware NSX

Cause

  • The vSphere Distributed Switch (DVS) version in the environment is lower than 7.0.3 . As a result, the upgrade pre-check fails.

Resolution

  • To resolve this issue, upgrade the vSphere Distributed Switch to version 7.0.3 before proceeding with the NSX upgrade. This ensures compatibility and allows the upgrade pre-check to complete successfully.
