What is the latest version of VMware tools that can run on ESXi

Issue/Introduction

Particular versions of VMware Tools are distributed with ESXi.  Questions arise about what other versions of VMware Tools are supported on ESXi.

Environment

ESXi 7.0
ESXi 8.0
ESXi 9.0

Cause

Sometimes, there is a need for a different version/build of VMware Tools to be available on an ESXi host.

Resolution

The VMware Version-Mapping File lists the available version/build numbers of VMware Tools and indicates at which version of ESXi they are distributed.  It also points out that Tools versions can work with a greater range of ESXi versions.
