Issue/Introduction

The image management features of vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) are inaccessible to domain users.

Symptoms: 

  • The "Manage with single image" option is grayed out under the updates tab of the cluster.
  • Image option under updates tab is missing.

  • Following error message is observed under Menu > Lifecycle manager > Image Depot : " You do not have the required privilege to view Image Depot."

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 8.0.x

Cause

  • Domain users are unable to access vLCM image management features due to insufficient permissions assigned.

Resolution

To resolve this issue create and assign a custom vSphere Lifecycle Manager role or modify the existing role.

Follow the below steps to create and assign a new custom vSphere Lifecycle Manager role 

Assign the permission to a user/group and set to propagate the permissions:
  • Click on the Inventory object, Navigate to Permissions tab.
  • Click on Add.
  • Select the required domain and the target user/group.
  • Choose the newly created role from the list.
  • Select Propagate to Child Objects.
