VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

When adding a vCenter data source to Aria Operations for Networks environment, you may receive the error "VMware vCenter: Hostname/IP is unreachable" despite one or more of the following:

  • Successfully added other vCenter servers.
  • Have the same permissions as the successful vCenter server and/or confirmed permissions per the documentation
  • Tried both FQDN and IP address with the same results
  • Can ping and do NSLookup from both collector and platform devices to the vCenter servers

You see the following error in the restapilayer logs: "Error while checking if VC with vcLicenseInfo:" {redacted}) "is not supported by vRNI."

Note: restapilayer logs can be found on the platform node in /var/log/arkin/restapilayer/restapilayer.STDOUT-<yyyy>-<mm>-<dd>-<dd>.<nn>.<ss>.log

for example:

2025-10-08T20:24:03.000602Z ERROR restapilayer ##### [netw@#### class="settings.licensing.KeylessLicensingHelper" thread="dw-###### - POST /management/validateCredentials" method="isVcenterAdditionSupported" line="237"] Error while checking if VC with vcLicenseInfo: VCLicenseInfo(editionKey:vc.standard.instance.marvin, expirationTime:0, capacity:0, name:vCenter Server 8 Standard, productVersion:8.0, hasAONComponent:false, gracePeriodDays:-1, licenseKey:#####-_____-_____-_____-#####) can be added.
java.lang.Exception: VC with majorVersion: 8 and edition: vc.standard.instance.marvin is not supported by vRNI.

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.0
VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.1

Cause

An incorrect error message displays for some vCenter license edition that are unsupported by VCF Operations for Networks for data sources.

Only specific vCenter license editions are supported by VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.0 because this component is only available with VMware Cloud Foundation.

Resolution

Apply a valid vCenter license key to your vCenter data source that is supported by VCF Operations for Networks.
